SUMMARY:Scaffolding Complex Texts: Instructional Strategies for Equitable Access to Rigorous Content
DESCRIPTION:How can struggling readers comprehend complex texts that are challenging for them to read? The answer lies in instructional scaffolds. This session will model teacher practices that can be immediately implemented to assist struggling readers in reading and learning from rigorous texts and ensure equitable access to challenging content. \nMichelle Elia\, assistant professor at Marietta College\, prepares pre-service teachers to teach reading using practices grounded in reading science. Her previous roles include Ohio Literacy Lead\, Literacy Specialist\, Special Education Consultant\, and Intervention Specialist. Elia is a nationally recognized literacy PD provider and president of The Reading League Ohio.
